The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified its recent visit to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) office in Abuja, countering claims of an unlawful raid. On Monday, reports surfaced that DSS operatives had entered SERAP’s premises, leading to accusations of harassment and intimidation.
According to the DSS, a team of two unarmed officers conducted a routine investigation at SERAP’s Abuja office. The agency described the incident as a standard procedure, refuting suggestions of illegality or forceful intrusion. “The narrative that these activities constitute a raid or harassment is inaccurate and misleading,” the DSS stated in a Tuesday release.
The DSS emphasized that such inquiries are part of their normal operations and insisted that the actions were neither illegal nor aimed at intimidating SERAP officials. The agency further encouraged public participation in national security matters and called for the disregard of what it terms as false representations.
The DSS has promised a thorough review of the situation to address any concerns and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism in executing its duties.
