The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to prosecute former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, over allegations of ₦80.2 billion fraud. The anti-corruption agency stated its readiness to present comprehensive evidence against Bello in court.
In a statement released on Wednesday by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the commission emphasized that Bello, like other high-profile figures facing corruption charges, would have his day in court. The agency dismissed any attempts to derail the case through public sympathy or other tactics, affirming that the rule of law must prevail.
“The EFCC remains resolute in its stance that no individual is above the law. We are prepared to provide a wealth of evidence that has been meticulously gathered over the course of this investigation,” Oyewale said.
He further stated that the EFCC is undeterred by any efforts to frustrate the legal process, vowing that corruption will be addressed without exceptions. “The EFCC will maintain its ‘no sacred cows’ policy, regardless of the individual involved,” he added.
Bello is expected to face charges of money laundering in court, with the EFCC poised to present an avalanche of evidence in the trial.
