The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has raised alarm over a recent surge in kidnappings near its main gate, prompting the institution to issue a movement advisory to students. The university management, in a statement released by the Registrar, Chiedozie Uba, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, warned students to avoid the Obinze-Ihiagwa Road, especially during early morning and late evening hours when these incidents are most frequent.

FUTO urged students to minimize their movements outside the campus between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to reduce the risk of falling victim to the kidnappers. The advisory also emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and for students to keep their families updated on their whereabouts for added security.
