The Imo State House of Assembly has put forward a proposal urging Governor Hope Uzodinma to rename the Imo International Conference Centre (IICC) in tribute to the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo. This move aims to honor Iwuanyanwu’s substantial contributions to economic and human development in the state and beyond.

The motion, introduced by Innocent Ikpamezie, the representative for Mbaitoli Constituency, highlights Iwuanyanwu’s significant impact on Imo State and the South-East region. Ikpamezie lauded Iwuanyanwu’s role in the development of the state’s International Cargo Airport, for which he made a major financial donation. He emphasized that Iwuanyanwu’s philanthropic efforts—ranging from providing infrastructure to awarding scholarships—have left a lasting legacy.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who passed away while serving as the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, was also noted for his role in promoting peace and unity among the Igbo people. His leadership extended to various other positions, including President of the Owerri Peoples Assembly.
