The Imo State Police Command has initiated a probe into a viral video showing police officers involved in a violent confrontation with 32-year-old Prince Amaechi during an arrest in Owerri North, Imo State. The video, recorded by Amaechi’s wife on September 16, 2024, captured Anti-Narcotics Unit officers pinning Amaechi to the ground while he held a child, sparking outrage on social media.

The police officers, identified as Sergeant Patrick Nwangbo, Corporal Godswill Okechukwu, Corporal Justice Nnorom, and Corporal Goodluck Iwuagwu, were executing an arrest warrant for Amaechi, who had been linked to a drug trafficking case based on confessions from previously arrested suspects, Ijeoma Ezealamba and Ebenezer Chukwuka. Despite this, the Imo State Police Command has condemned the officers’ actions, calling them unprofessional.
