The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has pledged to take decisive action against the producers and distributors of the dangerous drug known as crystal meth or “mkpulu mmiri” in Southeast Nigeria. According to a statement by IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group’s intelligence unit has uncovered around 10 drug factories operating in the Orlu area of Imo State, allegedly established by individuals who returned from South Africa.

IPOB claims that these drug dealers, operating under the cover of the Nigerian and Imo State governments, are working to destroy Igbo youths by infiltrating communities with illicit drugs. The pro-Biafra group insists that these criminal activities have no connection to their struggle for an independent Biafran nation, as some drug dealers falsely claim to be agitating for Biafra while engaging in violent drug trade.

“These criminals have set up operations, notably in Umuaka town, Orlu, with support from Nigerian security forces who protect the illegal drug trade,” the IPOB statement alleged. The group has identified six key individuals from the Umuaka community behind the establishment of drug factories, adding that the drugs are distributed across several states, including Lagos, Rivers, Kano, and Abuja.

IPOB warned those involved in the drug business to immediately cease operations or face severe consequences. “We have identified these individuals, and if they do not stop, IPOB will take every measure necessary to expose and terminate their operations,” the statement read.

The group also called on Igbo leaders and communities to join hands in combating the drug menace, emphasizing that the production and distribution of mkpulu mmiri are harmful not only to individuals but to the future of the entire region.
