The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has officially presented Certificates of Return to the 27 local government chairmen-elect, following the conclusion of Saturday’s election. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in all the chairmanship and 305 councillorship positions across the state.
During the presentation ceremony on Tuesday, ISIEC Chairman, Charles Ejiogu, affirmed that the issuance of the certificates was in compliance with the law. He further announced that certificates of return for vice chairmen and councillors would be presented in the coming days.
“What we have witnessed is a clear demonstration of the people’s will and determination to express themselves democratically in an atmosphere devoid of bitterness and rancor,” Ejiogu stated. He emphasized that observers had judged the election to be peaceful, free, fair, transparent, and credible.
Among the 27 chairmen-elect, two are women, while 14 other women emerged as vice chairpersons across various local government areas.
