Amid worsening fuel scarcity and economic hardship, key institutions, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), House of Representatives, and opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have called on the Federal Government to reverse the recent hike in petrol prices. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently raised the price of petrol from N568 to as high as N897 per litre, sparking protests across the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside top government officials, has met with key stakeholders to address the crisis, while the NNPCL cited foreign exchange fluctuations and market forces as major contributors to the price surge. However, the PDP and other critics have slammed the increase, accusing the government of exacerbating the suffering of Nigerians already grappling with inflation and unemployment.
