Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has firmly rejected suggestions that her victory was a result of a pity win. Addressing critics in a candid interview on Arise News, Adetshina emphasized that her win was the result of relentless dedication and effort.

Despite the skepticism surrounding her triumph, Adetshina defended her position by recounting her arduous journey. “People might think it was a pity win, but that’s far from the truth. I put in immense hard work, especially after my experience in South Africa. We spent about 10 weeks in camp, enduring a rigorous process,” Adetshina explained.

The beauty queen’s journey took an unexpected turn when she was compelled to withdraw from South Africa’s version of the pageant in August 2024 due to allegations of fraud and identity theft linked to her mother. Additionally, she faced xenophobic backlash, which led to her accepting an invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant—a platform where she ultimately secured her victory.
