The Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, has affirmed that the recent increase in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000 is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at enhancing youth welfare and development in Nigeria. This increase, effective from July 2024, represents a significant boost from the previous ₦33,000 stipend.
Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that this initiative reflects President Tinubu’s dedication to improving the lives of young Nigerians, noting, “The President’s vision for youth welfare has always been clear—this allowance increase is a direct reflection of his commitment to creating better opportunities for our young people.” She further explained that her ministry had played a key role in advocating for this enhancement, ensuring that the NYSC members’ welfare remains a top priority.
In addition, the minister praised Brigadier-General YD Ahmed, the Director-General of NYSC, for his steadfast dedication to the Corps members’ well-being. “This increase goes beyond addressing economic realities. It is a strategic move to empower our youth, ensuring they are better equipped to contribute to national development,” Dr. Ibrahim added.
The allowance hike aligns with the broader objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes youth empowerment, economic stability, and development opportunities. Dr. Ibrahim assured that this is just one of many initiatives the Ministry of Youth Development will pursue to improve the lives of Nigerian youth.
This significant increase, she explained, underscores the administration’s resolve to provide young Nigerians with the support they need to thrive in their service to the nation.
