The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former Senator Dino Melaye over accusations of anti-party activities and misconduct. The decision was taken by the party’s executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, following Melaye’s refusal to appear before a disciplinary panel.
In a meeting held on Friday, the Ward executive committee reviewed the report submitted by the disciplinary committee, which had been investigating Melaye’s actions. The resolution, signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Secretary Yodson Dayo, stated that Melaye’s conduct had brought “embarrassment and disrepute” to the party, making his continued membership untenable.
Citing Article 59(1) of the PDP constitution, the Ward exco invoked their authority to discipline members engaged in misconduct, thereby suspending Melaye from the party effective immediately. The party expressed disappointment in the former Kogi West senator, accusing him of failing to align with the principles of the PDP, which had ultimately led to his suspension.
The decision is expected to stir reactions within political circles, particularly as Melaye, known for his outspoken nature, had been a prominent figure in the party. The suspension, according to insiders, reflects growing tensions within the PDP in Kogi State as the party navigates internal divisions and leadership challenges.
