The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed accusations of indifference to the spate of student kidnappings in Imo State, pointing to recent successes in tackling the rising crime wave. In a statement issued by ACP Muyiwa Adejobi on behalf of the Force Headquarters, the police detailed the arrest of five suspects involved in kidnappings along the Obinze-Ihiagwa axis and the rescue of a kidnapped victim.

The suspects, identified as Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim, and Jubrin Idris, were apprehended on August 21, 2024, during a police operation in Avu, Imo State. Additionally, the police announced the arrest of 25-year-old Nwauba Alex, caught attempting an armed robbery near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri, with a locally made pistol, live ammunition, and other items recovered from him.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasized the force’s commitment to tackling crime through both proactive and reactive strategies. The police reassured the public of their continued efforts to ensure safety and security across the state.
