US rapper Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has passed away at the age of 33 in an Atlanta hospital, the Fulton County medical examiner confirmed. While the cause of death is yet to be determined, with a post-mortem scheduled for Friday, his passing has shocked the music world.
Rich Homie Quan first gained mainstream attention in 2013 with his hit Type of Way, a track that solidified his place in the industry. Over the years, Quan worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Jeezy, YG, and Young Thug. He was part of the Rich Gang collective, releasing Lifestyle, another major hit produced by London on da Track. His 2015 single Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh) reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his highest-charting solo song.
Despite facing legal issues and a public feud with Young Thug, Quan remained committed to his music. He released his debut studio album, Rich as in Spirit, in 2018 and was preparing for a comeback.
His death is reminiscent of other tragic losses in the hip-hop community, leaving behind a legacy of musical influence and untapped potential.
