Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Communications to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, claiming that the emblem on Tinubu’s cap has evolved into a symbol of oppression and broken promises. In a statement titled “De-cap-itated!” released on Monday, Shaibu highlighted the gap between Tinubu’s campaign promises and his performance after one year in office.
Shaibu recalled Tinubu’s pre-election explanation that his cap’s emblem, a broken shackle, symbolised liberation and progress for Nigeria. However, he argued that Tinubu has failed to break the chains of poverty and hardship, leaving Nigerians disappointed.
“The cap once stood for Tinubu’s commitment to boosting the economy, upholding human rights, and replicating the so-called Lagos success story. But today, it’s an emblem of a regime leaning toward authoritarianism,” Shaibu stated.
He further explained that even vendors who once sold the cap enthusiastically are now burdened by unsold stock, as it has become an embarrassing relic for many of Tinubu’s supporters. He remarked that the cap, once a sought-after political symbol, now represents unfulfilled promises and deepening frustration among Nigerians.
“The cap symbolises more than just broken promises; it now serves as a reminder of the country’s declining socio-economic situation under Tinubu’s administration,” Shaibu added, pointing out that the sentiment surrounding Tinubu has shifted from hope to disillusionment
