Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has voluntarily honored an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his time in office. Accompanied by several high-profile individuals, Bello’s appearance at the EFCC headquarters follows consultations with his family, legal team, and political associates.

In a statement issued by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, the former governor emphasized his commitment to clearing his name. “He has nothing to hide and nothing to fear,” the statement read, as Bello engaged directly with the anti-graft agency to address accusations linked to N80.2 billion in alleged money laundering.

The former governor has been entangled in a legal battle with the EFCC, facing 19 counts alongside three others related to financial mismanagement. Despite the gravity of the charges, Bello remains confident in the due process of the law, having consistently ensured his legal representation in court.

Bello’s media office reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its commitment to fighting corruption. “The former Governor believes firmly in the efforts of this administration to place Nigeria on the path of sustainable economic development and fully supports the anti-corruption drive,” the statement added.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has previously vowed to see Bello prosecuted, swearing to follow the case to its conclusion. In April, Olukoyede even declared he would resign if the former governor was not prosecuted.
