Chief Barth Nwibe, an oil magnate and governorship aspirant under the Labour Party, has pledged to address youth unemployment and energy shortages in Anambra if elected in 2025. Speaking at a political stakeholders’ gathering in Igboukwu, Anambra South Senatorial District, Nwibe identified unemployment and a harsh business environment as key factors driving insecurity in the state.

Nwibe, who is also the founder of the Ugo Igbo Foundation, lamented the decline of Anambra’s economy, which he said had led to the collapse of nightlife, outward migration of businesses, and a reluctance of diaspora communities to return home due to insecurity. He asserted that his administration would focus on job creation and empower local governments to prioritize community needs without undue government interference.

“If elected, I will complete all ongoing projects and work closely with Orient Petroleum to harness Anambra’s gas resources. We need energy to drive industrialization and restore Anambra’s economy,” Nwibe said. He further assured stakeholders that he would prioritize security, industrialization, and community development, promising to break away from the current government’s alleged interference in local governance.

The 2025 governorship election, Nwibe emphasized, is a critical opportunity for Anambra to regain its lost glory, with political stakeholders rallying behind his candidacy, calling him a “meticulous administrator with a vision for transformation.”
