Big Brother Naija Season 9 winner Kellyrae and his wife, Kassia, have shared the secrets behind how they kept their marriage hidden from fellow housemates throughout the competition. The couple revealed that their discipline and a strong strategic focus helped them maintain their edge during the intense reality show.
During a recent appearance on TVC’s Esplash, Kellyrae and Kassia, who were part of the 2024 edition of BBNaija, which paired housemates together, opened up about the unique challenges they faced. Entering the house as a married couple but keeping their relationship under wraps was a major part of their game plan, and they pulled it off successfully. Their pairing, under the name Doublekay, was one of the show’s most talked-about strategies.
Kellyrae reflected on how discipline played a crucial role in their success. “First of all, discipline. You have to remind yourself where you’re coming from and where you’re going. It’s better to stay ‘dirty’ for a while and win big than stay clean for the rest of your life. If it meant staying in that mode for a year, we would have done it.”
He added that while it was difficult to keep their marriage a secret, they took turns keeping each other grounded. “At the beginning, she wasn’t used to it, and she’s very touchy. So I had to remind her not to call me baby. But later, she was the one keeping me in check. We had each other’s backs.”
Kassia revealed that participating in BBNaija had always been a dream of Kellyrae’s, not hers. “Going into the house was always his dream. He had auditioned many times without success. For this season, he had even decided not to audition, but a friend pushed us, and we were surprised when we got picked,” she shared.
The 2024 edition of BBNaija, which centered on housemates playing in pairs, was a first of its kind, and even after the pairs were dissolved, the audience remained hooked. Kellyrae and Kassia’s strategy to present themselves as friends, despite their marriage, kept the housemates in the dark and contributed to their ultimate victory.
