In a decisive move to end the persistent banditry plaguing Nigeria’s northwest, Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar has issued an urgent directive to capture notorious bandit leader Turji. The minister delivered the order on Thursday while addressing troops of Operation Fansar Yamma at the One Brigade Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Minister Abubakar, speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, commended the troops for recent successes against armed groups but stressed the need for intensified efforts. “President Tinubu has recognised some level of improvement in the operation against terrorists in the region over the last few months,” Abubakar stated. Yet, he acknowledged that the battle against Turji and other high-profile bandits remains a critical task, urging soldiers to bring Turji in “dead or alive.”

The Defence Minister’s address marked his visit to receive updates on the region’s security operations. Emphasizing the President’s commitment to restoring peace, he assured the troops that Tinubu is prepared to provide all necessary resources. “President Tinubu has asked me to thank you and to also encourage you to do more in ending insecurity in these operational areas. He is ready to supply everything you need to eliminate insecurity in the northwest and across Nigeria.”

Abubakar’s directive to eliminate Turji reflects the Nigerian government’s resolve to dismantle the armed groups that have terrorized the region for years. He addressed the assembled soldiers with an impassioned call, saying, “Are you ready to finish them off? Are you ready to end banditry in this country? Please get me Turji, dead or alive.”

The notorious Turji has been linked to numerous attacks across Zamfara and neighboring states, making him one of the most wanted figures in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry. His capture would signify a major breakthrough in the government’s bid to restore stability to communities affected by violence.

The Defence Minister was welcomed by Maj. Gen. Oluyinka Soyele, Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Fansar Yamma, and Zamfara State’s Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummun. The Nigerian military, buoyed by the government’s support and recognition, is set to escalate operations, with Turji’s capture a top priority.
