Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, will depart for Lome, Togo, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to compete in the WAFU B U-20 Championship. The team, currently camping at the Remo Sports Institute in Ikenne, Ogun State, has been finalizing preparations under head coach Aliyu Zubairu.
The Flying Eagles, defending champions of the tournament, will begin their title defense with a Group B match against Burkina Faso on Friday, October 18, at the Stade Municipal in Lome. The Nigerian team is set to face Cote d’Ivoire in their second group game on October 24. Group A includes host nation Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic, with the competition kicking off on October 17 when Togo takes on Benin.
This tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, and the top teams will advance to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile next year. The Flying Eagles are expected to bring their A-game as they aim to retain their championship title.
