Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced that it will close all branches nationwide at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, as part of its transition to a new, advanced Finacle Core Banking Application. This move comes as the bank aims to enhance its customer experience by adopting cutting-edge technology.

GTBank has notified customers that branches will remain closed over the weekend, with operations expected to resume at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024. In addition to the early closure, the bank warned of anticipated disruptions to its digital banking services—online and mobile platforms—starting from 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14.

The transition to Finacle, an Indian-based core banking system by EdgeVerve Systems, is designed to provide a more efficient and secure banking experience for GTBank’s millions of customers. While this upgrade represents a significant step forward in improving service delivery, it will result in temporary inconvenience as customers will experience outages across key digital channels.

GTBank reassured its clients that their funds are safe, emphasizing the upgrade’s focus on long-term benefits, such as better transaction speed and enhanced security measures. The bank also urged customers to plan ahead for the brief period of disruption and thanked them for their patience and cooperation.

This upgrade follows a recent trend in the Nigerian banking industry, where several financial institutions have been upgrading their core banking systems to streamline operations and reduce reliance on costly foreign software. Like other banks that have upgraded recently, GTBank hopes the shift to a more advanced platform will bolster its position in delivering cutting-edge digital banking services.
