The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) Resource Centre has officially opened public voting for the 7th edition of the prestigious Gani Fawehinmi Impact and Integrity Awards (GFIIA) 2024. The awards, which celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to society through integrity and impact, have shortlisted 16 nominees across four categories following a thorough screening process.

Voting, which started on October 3, 2024, will run until November 8, 2024, and can be accessed through the GFIIA website: https://gfa.hedang.org. HEDA’s Chairman, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, underscored the importance of the awards in promoting integrity and fighting corruption in Nigeria, noting that it provides a platform for the public to engage in the selection of exceptional individuals.

“The GFIIA Awards aim to inspire positive societal change by celebrating those who uphold integrity and make impactful contributions, even under challenging circumstances,” Suraju said. He emphasized that the awards process is inclusive, allowing the public to nominate and vote for individuals who reflect the values championed by the late Gani Fawehinmi.

This year, 203 nominations were received, with 16 candidates shortlisted across four categories. The nominees for the Outstanding Impact Award include Dr. Lola Odeyale, Akingbade Toluwa-Jolomi, Njoku Chibueze, President Aigbokhan, Dr. Abel Abraham, Lukman Oladimeji, Dinatu Dama Maji, Buhari Yerima, Idris Bilyaminu, and Kelvin Jombo.

Nominees for the Outstanding Integrity Award are Ezenwa Samson, Oriyomi Hamzat, and Sulyman Hannafi, while Ibrahim Ali and Adekunle Olawunmi have been shortlisted for the Valuable Whistle-blower Award. Mrs. Saidat Oluwatuyi, who successfully passed the screening process, is the sole nominee for the Nigeria-In-Diaspora Award.

The GFIIA Awards Board, chaired by Prof. Itse Sagay SAN and co-chaired by Mr. Femi Falana SAN, includes prominent figures such as Prof. Ayo Atsenua, Prof. Nsongurua Udombana, Dr. Abiola Akiode-Afolabi, Comrade Chuka Achude, and Comrade Femi Aborisade.
