Nigerian House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh has publicly expressed remorse for assaulting a Bolt driver who came to deliver a package to his residence. In a statement titled “A Statement of Regret and Commitment to Justice,” Ikwechegh apologized for his actions, acknowledging that his conduct, captured in a viral video, was “unacceptable” and fell far short of what is expected from a public servant.

“As a representative of the people, I fully recognize the trust placed in me by my constituents and Nigerians. My behavior was disappointing, and for this, I sincerely apologize to the driver, my constituents, and the nation as a whole,” he wrote, further admitting the embarrassment and harm his actions caused.

Commitment to Personal and Public Accountability

Ikwechegh revealed that he would cooperate fully with the ongoing police investigation and commit to a personal journey of growth and accountability. He plans to address what he referred to as “underlying issues” by seeking professional counseling and engaging in community service initiatives focused on promoting respect and empathy in his community.
