The Imo State House of Assembly has strongly condemned the murder of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Chinwendu Amadi, at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, urging swift action to apprehend those responsible. The resolution follows a motion raised by Obinna Egu, representing Ngor-Okpala Constituency, where the late Mrs. Amadi hailed from.

Egu expressed deep concern over the brutal killing, describing it as a “double tragedy” due to the loss of both the mother and her unborn child. He emphasized that the act has ignited widespread fear and outrage within the surrounding communities, with residents now living in constant apprehension.

During the House session, Egu urged fellow lawmakers to support calls for enhanced security at the airport, including the construction of a perimeter fence to prevent unauthorized access. He also proposed the establishment of a police station within the airport area to provide ongoing security and rapid response capabilities.

After considerable discussion, the Assembly resolved to call on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute the perpetrators. The Assembly further urged the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to prioritize the installation of a perimeter fence to protect the premises and enhance overall security.

The lawmakers’ demand for immediate action reflects a broader concern over security lapses at public facilities in the state, with community members voicing support for the Assembly’s proposals to prevent future incidents.
