The Labour Party (LP) has welcomed the offer by former New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, to serve as Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election. This development follows a viral post in which Kwankwaso expressed his willingness to deputize for Obi, provided certain conditions are met.

Kwankwaso, who had earlier clashed with Obi over leadership during merger talks for the 2023 election, acknowledged Obi’s political strength and expressed interest in rekindling discussions. He admitted in a video post that while he sees himself as a more experienced politician, he is open to collaboration if trust is established.

Kwankwaso’s remarks come after both candidates secured notable votes in the 2023 election, with Obi coming in third with over 6 million votes and Kwankwaso placing fourth with nearly 1.5 million votes.

Reacting to the offer, LP National Secretary Umar Farouk praised Kwankwaso’s decision and urged him to avoid divisive comments about his qualifications. Farouk emphasized that collaboration between Obi and Kwankwaso would benefit Nigerians and potentially unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
