Former Presidential aide Laolu Akande has called on ex-Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike to step back and acknowledge that he no longer governs the state. Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources on Sunday, Akande criticized the ongoing political friction between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing their power struggle as harmful to the state and its residents.

Akande condemned the increasing violence and destruction of public property in Rivers, pointing to the clashes between Wike and Fubara as a driving factor. He noted that Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), should take his own past advice by respecting the transition of power. Akande said, “Wike should surrender and accept that his time as governor is over. Rivers needs leadership, not a continued battle of godfathers and godsons.”

The former aide further urged Governor Fubara to adopt a more reconciliatory approach to governing, emphasizing that the ongoing conflict between the two leaders benefits no one and only deepens the crisis in the state.
