Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been confirmed to be in the custody of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos State. This follows his arrest by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border on Sunday as he attempted to flee to Benin Republic.

The arrest comes amid an ongoing House of Representatives investigation into an audio conversation that allegedly implicates Bobrisky in bribing officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges. The leaked audio, released by social media activist VeryDarkMan, also includes claims that Bobrisky evaded serving his six-month prison sentence at Kirikiri Correctional Centre, allegedly staying in a lodge due to the influence of a powerful “godfather.”

Confirming his detention, the FCID Lagos spokesperson, Mayegun Aminat, stated, “He is detained at FCID Alagbon. He is with us, and we are to get a remand to keep him in custody today.”

Despite being summoned for the ongoing investigative hearing, Bobrisky failed to appear before the committee, which further raised suspicions about his activities. The NIS, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized that Bobrisky is a person of interest due to “recent issues of public concern.”

“The Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border while attempting to exit the country. He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, an investigative panel led by the Executive Director of the Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, Uju Agomoh, revealed that there was no evidence to support Bobrisky’s claim that he slept outside the custodial centre during his jail term.

“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment, from 12th April 2024 to 5th August 2024,” Agomoh confirmed in the phase one report of the panel.
