Nigerian youths, under the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), are gearing up for a large-scale protest against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) over the recent sharp fuel price hike. The group, representing youth organizations from all six geopolitical zones, expressed their outrage in a statement signed by CONYL officials, noting that the rise in fuel prices—up to N1300 per litre—has exacerbated the already severe economic hardship in the country.

The group emphasized that the fuel price surge, alongside increases in the cost of other petroleum products, has led to soaring transportation costs, skyrocketing food prices, and inflation of everyday goods and services. CONYL also accused oil cabals and NNPCL of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians, stating, “Their plan is dead on arrival.”

CONYL revealed plans to stage a 2-million-person protest in front of NNPCL’s premises to demand the removal of its leadership. While the date of the protest is yet to be finalized, the youth leaders insisted that the demonstration is crucial for the nation’s survival and development.
