Tension has gripped Enugu, Nigeria, following the alleged murder of popular Ogene musician Igbo Jah by a police officer attached to the Anti-Cult Unit of the Enugu State Police Command. The incident, which occurred Friday night, has sparked public outrage, with angry youths staging protests and setting bonfires in the Obiagu and Asata areas.

Reports indicate that Igbo Jah, whose real name is Okezie Chikezie Mba, had attended an event at the Anti-Cult Unit’s office. As he was leaving the premises, an officer reportedly fired his weapon, fatally wounding the musician. Igbo Jah was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the officer involved, a Police Inspector, has been arrested and is currently detained. DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesman, said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure appropriate disciplinary actions.”

In his statement, CP Uzuegbu expressed condolences to Igbo Jah’s family and friends, describing the incident as “unacceptable” and vowing that justice will be served. He called on the public to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation to ensure accountability.
