Social media activist Martins Ortse, known as VeryDarkMan, has voiced strong criticism over the role of religion in Nigeria, following Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s recent apology regarding his previous statements on tithing. Pastor Adeboye, leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), had earlier claimed that Christians who fail to pay tithe would not make it to heaven—a statement he now retracted as a mistake.

During his address to church members, Pastor Adeboye clarified that the Bible does not support the idea of tithing as a prerequisite for entering heaven, emphasizing that peaceful and holy living are the true keys to salvation. This public apology has reignited debates on how religious leaders interpret and teach biblical doctrines.

Reacting to the apology via Instagram, VeryDarkMan expressed his satisfaction with Adeboye’s confession but questioned the broader implications of false teachings within religious institutions. He remarked, “I’m happy about what Papa Adeboye revealed… but how many other things have religious leaders told us that are not in the Bible?”

He further criticized how religion has, in his view, blinded and manipulated many in Nigeria and Africa, urging people to seek the truth in the Bible and not simply follow doctrine blindly. VeryDarkMan also called on religious leaders to redirect collected tithes towards creating jobs and alleviating the nation’s economic struggles.
