Controversial musician, Speed Darlington, has been released from police custody after spending five days in detention. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed that Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja based on allegations made by Burna Boy.
The Grammy Award-winning artist filed a formal complaint accusing Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking, which led to his detention by police in Abuja’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) department.
Darlington was freed on Tuesday evening after meeting the bail conditions set by the police. Adeyanju, who had been advocating for his release, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the singer’s bail and praised the professionalism of the IRT department.
In a viral video, Darlington taunted Burna Boy, questioning how he won the Grammy award for his album Twice As Tall and hinted at Burna Boy’s alleged connections to US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently facing multiple charges.
Earlier, Darlington’s mother pleaded with Burna Boy to show mercy and release her son, calling him her only child.
