President Bola Tinubu has made a decisive move by relieving five ministers of their duties as part of a significant cabinet reshuffle aimed at improving the performance of his administration. Among those sacked are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.

This decision, confirmed by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday, is seen as part of Tinubu’s efforts to streamline his administration’s performance, coming after the president warned of possible dismissals for underperformance. Additionally, the Ministry of Niger Delta has been renamed the Ministry of Regional Development as part of these reforms, signaling broader changes in the government’s approach to regional development.

While some of the dismissed ministers had only been in office for just over a year, the reshuffle also saw the reallocation of 10 other ministers and the nomination of seven new ones awaiting Senate confirmation. This overhaul is viewed as a response to mounting pressure from various quarters, including public sentiment about the performance of Tinubu’s cabinet since his inauguration.
