At least 90 people have been confirmed dead following a tragic petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State late Tuesday night. The devastating accident occurred when a petrol tanker lost control near Khadija University, sparking an explosion that claimed numerous lives.
Police spokesperson Mr. Shi’isu Adam confirmed the incident on Wednesday, revealing that over 50 others were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at Ringim General Hospital. Despite repeated warnings from authorities, many people gathered at the accident site, leading to the mass casualties. A mass burial for the victims was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The tanker driver, en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe, lost control of the vehicle, leading to the disaster. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
