Popular social media activist, Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, has officially filed a petition against Alex Ikwechegh, a Federal House of Representatives member from Abia State, after a video surfaced online showing the lawmaker allegedly assaulting an Uber driver and making chilling threats. The video, which has gone viral, shows Ikwechegh confronting the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, during a heated altercation, during which he allegedly slapped the driver, threatened to “make him disappear,” and implied he would detain him in his personal generator room.
The petition, which details accusations of assault, abuse of power, attempted murder, and threat to life, has been signed by activist Deji Adeyanju on behalf of VeryDarkMan. It raises serious concerns about the lawmaker’s conduct, especially his alleged abuse of power and threatening demeanor.
In an interview with VeryDarkMan on Monday, Abuwatseya recounted his experience during the confrontation with Ikwechegh, describing feelings of fear and helplessness under the lawmaker’s power. The social media outcry that followed the video’s release has led to increased scrutiny over the actions of public officials and highlighted the importance of accountability, even at the highest levels of government.
VeryDarkMan, known for his advocacy against social injustice, remarked that he will not relent until justice is served for Abuwatseya. The activist also called on Nigerians to hold their elected officials to higher ethical standards, adding that “no one should be above the law.” The petition calls for an investigation into the matter and appropriate legal action against the lawmaker if found guilty.
