Victor Osimhen, currently on loan to Galatasaray from Napoli, has quickly become a fan favorite in Turkey, with his iconic face mask gaining immense popularity among the supporters. However, despite the mask’s significance and Osimhen’s impressive performances, Galatasaray fans have been banned from wearing the mask in stadiums on match days, sparking widespread interest and debate.
The ban, enforced by GS Stores, stems from concerns over fan safety. The club issued a statement explaining that masks are prohibited due to Turkish sports laws, with the rule aimed at ensuring compliance with stadium regulations. The statement emphasized the need for safety, urging fans to observe the guidelines to enjoy safe match days.
Osimhen has been wearing the mask since suffering a severe head injury in November 2021, which required significant medical intervention. Despite its protective function, rival fans previously called for the mask to be banned after a collision between Osimhen and a Rizespor player led to a broken cheekbone. While these calls were dismissed, the decision to ban fan use of the mask on match days is now official.
Osimhen, who has scored two goals and provided four assists for Galatasaray, remains sidelined with an injury sustained against Kasimpasa, but his impact on and off the pitch continues to be felt.
