As tensions rise over the recent bandit attacks in the Maradun area of Zamfara State, an indigene and appointee of the state government has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene, accusing Governor Dauda Lawal of politicizing the tragic event. The anonymous appointee expressed concerns over the governor’s handling of the situation, suggesting that political motives are being prioritized over the safety and well-being of the people.

In an alarming revelation, the appointee questioned why the State Government House Press Bus was spotted at the scene just seven minutes after the bandits struck, and why the attack took place near the home of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. He further speculated that recent anti-banditry efforts led by Matawalle and the Chief of Defence Staff may have provoked retaliation from certain political elements.

The indigene condemned the state government, accusing them of possibly sponsoring the attack to discredit political rivals, a claim that, if true, could have dangerous consequences for the region. Vulnerable members of the community, including those unable to flee, were reportedly abducted during the raid.

Local sources in Maradun are also raising questions over the state’s response. Mohammed Dogo, a retired school teacher from Janbako, stated that the quick arrival of government press officers at the scene with cameras, instead of mobilizing security personnel, has fueled skepticism among residents.

This attack comes just days after Minister Matawalle publicly challenged Governor Lawal and General Aliyu Gusau to swear their innocence regarding the ongoing banditry and terrorism crisis in Zamfara State.
