The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported a violent attack on its 330/132/33kV transmission substation under construction in Obajana, Kogi State, where armed assailants damaged critical infrastructure, setting back efforts to stabilize power in the region. According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the incident unfolded late on November 12, 2024, as gunmen fired indiscriminately, forcing security personnel on-site to flee, which allowed the assailants to damage a 150MVA transformer, severely affecting its radiator.

The TCN confirmed that it is assessing the extent of the damage alongside project contractors and underscored that the Obajana attack is one of many recent cases of vandalism plaguing national power infrastructure. The Obajana substation, designed to improve power distribution across Kogi State and surrounding areas, now faces delays that could impact regional electricity supply.
