Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has advised African-Americans considering relocation to Africa to reconsider their plans, citing the continent’s current economic difficulties. Speaking on the Big Homies House podcast, Davido expressed concerns over the state of Africa’s economy, describing it as “in shambles.”
The music icon’s remarks come amid discussions sparked by some African-Americans contemplating a move to Africa following Donald Trump’s re-election in the United States. Davido cautioned that despite the cultural and historical ties many feel with Africa, the harsh economic realities could present significant challenges.
“It’s not cool back home. The economy now is in shambles,” he said, clarifying that his intention wasn’t to demarket Africa but to present a realistic picture.
Davido emphasized that Africa’s entertainment industry plays a pivotal role in creating a positive image of the continent, often masking its deeper issues. “Entertainment is giving Africa a smokescreen to make it look good,” he added, highlighting the disparity between the perception and reality of life in many African nations.
His comments have sparked diverse reactions, with some lauding his honesty and others expressing disappointment, accusing him of painting a negative picture of the continent.
