Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has accused Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy of using police to intimidate fellow singer Speed Darlington. Adeyanju took to social media platform X to allege that Burna Boy orchestrated the harassment of Speed Darlington, labeling it hypocritical for someone often compared to the late Fela Kuti, a symbol of resistance against oppression.
“Burna Boy behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi,” Adeyanju posted.
Speed Darlington, known for his controversial antics, was arrested in Owerri by the Imo State Police Command while performing at an event. His arrest comes shortly after returning to Nigeria earlier this week. This incident follows a previous arrest in Lagos over alleged cyberstalking of Burna Boy, where he was reportedly transferred to Abuja and detained by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in Guzape.
While the specifics of Burna Boy’s alleged involvement remain unclear, Adeyanju’s claims have fueled public discourse, raising questions about celebrity influence and the misuse of law enforcement.
