The Department of State Services (DSS) has allowed detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to meet with his legal representatives for the first time since September 27, 2024. This development follows directives from the DSS Director General, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, marking a significant turn in Kanu’s legal situation.

The lead counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, revealed that the legal team, joined by U.S.-based attorney Mr. Ndidi Awurum, finally gained access to Kanu, with the visit facilitated by legal expert Hon. Obi Aguocha. The team had faced repeated denials by the DSS despite a court order that granted Kanu access to his lawyers, raising concerns over judicial non-compliance.

“Our rigorous legal efforts and Hon. Obi Aguocha’s intervention were instrumental in achieving this outcome,” Ejimakor announced, expressing relief over the access granted.

For weeks, Kanu’s legal team has expressed frustration at the DSS’s refusal to comply with court mandates, prompting them to resume previously suspended legal actions aimed at enforcing the court’s decision.

This latest development brings hope for renewed momentum in Kanu’s legal proceedings as his team prepares to address the broader implications of his detention.
