Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo Chapter will next week mark its annual Week for 2024 with interesting activities cum programmes lined up to make it a grand celebration.

The week-long activities begins with Imo SWAN Road Walk entitled A Campaign For Healthy Life on Tuesday by 8am with the take off at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The Imo SWAN Road Walk is sponsored by the Chairman, Imo Sports Commission, Prince Eleazer Ogbonna.

Sports Writers will head back to the classroom on Wednesday by 10am as they hone their knowledge through a workshop titled the Future of Sports Journalism: Embracing Digital Tools and AI. The workshop will be handled by Chinedu Hardy Nwadike of OtownGist Media & Creative Hub situated at Number 26 School Road, Owerri, Imo state.

On Thursday, Imo SWAN members will proceed from the classroom to the Games Hall as they engage in sporting games such as Ludo, Draft, Table Tennis and Scrabble with winners in each category expected to win mouthwatering prizes.

Imo SWAN will engage Diamond Dynamics Fitness Club of Owerri in a friendly game on Saturday by 7am at ICAPS Egbu road. The game will afford members opportunity to shed some weights and also actively take part in football game.

The grand finale holds same Saturday November 16th as from 12 noon at the Rockview Hotel, Owerri with Imo SWAN awards ceremony where notable Imo indigenes who have had huge impact in the sporting ecosystem are celebrated and honoured.

Some of those to be honoured are the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma who is up for the Imo SWAN Personality of the Year Award while former Super Eagles winger and 1994 CAF Player of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke will be recognised as Imo SWAN Sports Legend Award of the Year.

Achieving Nigeria National League Chairman, George Aluo is also in line to receive the Imo SWAN Sports Iconic Administrator of the Year Award.

Others listed for awards are: Patrick Osuji (Campos), Ambassador Prince Eleazer Ogbonna, Honourable Emeka Mandela Ukaegbu, Honorable Obinna Onyeocha, Honourable Emeka Okoronkwo, Desire Oparanozie, Prince Chidi, Prince Chidiebere Onuoha, Late Christian Obi, Nnamdi Anyaehie, High Chief Dr Summers VC Nwokie (Ikukuoma 1 of Mbaise), Chief Innocent Onwubiko among others.
