The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Imo State has praised Barrister Chioma Uzodimma, the wife of Governor Hope Uzodimma, for her outstanding contributions to inmate rehabilitation by empowering 1,383 inmates through various palliative measures and skill acquisition kits. The commendation was made by the Imo State Comptroller of NCS, Eke C. Eke, during a visit to the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Lady Nkechi Ugwu.

According to Eke, Barrister Uzodimma’s support has significantly impacted the lives of inmates, who are now actively producing economically viable goods like shoes, soaps, bags, and sandals. He acknowledged the dedication of the Ministry of Women Affairs in delivering essential items and resources to the correctional center, enabling the inmates to gain skills and better prepare for reintegration into society.

Lady Nkechi Ugwu, in response, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, assuring that the First Lady remains committed to uplifting vulnerable individuals within the state. She highlighted that Barrister Uzodimma would soon be launching a Sexual Offenders Registry in collaboration with the correctional facility, aimed at publishing the names of sexual offenders as part of the state’s drive for justice and societal safety.

These groups commended her efforts through the Ministry of Women Affairs in advancing the rights and well-being of women and vulnerable groups across Imo State.

Lady Ugwu urged the women’s groups to continue supporting the state government’s initiatives, noting that the Imo State House of Assembly has also passed bills championed by the NLC Women’s Committee to safeguard the rights of female workers. She praised both organizations for their active role in advocating for women’s empowerment and societal development in Imo State.
