Kebbi State held a mass burial for 15 residents who lost their lives in a brutal attack by a newly emerged terror group, Lakurawa. The tragic incident, which targeted Mera village in Augie Local Government Area, underscores the intensifying security challenges in Nigeria’s North-West region.
The mass funeral, attended by Deputy Governor Umar Tafida, the Kebbi Commissioner of Police, and Emir of Argungu, HRH Isma’ila Mera, brought together families, local leaders, and security officials in a show of unity. Deputy Governor Tafida offered condolences on behalf of the state, reassuring families that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding citizens. “The Governor and security forces stand with you,” Tafida stated, vowing to intensify efforts to prevent further tragedies.
Emir Isma’ila Mera emphasized the need for unity and resilience within the community. He called on security agencies to ramp up their efforts to ensure that villages like Mera are protected from such violent incursions in the future.
The funeral prayer, which included prayers for peace and the repose of the deceased, symbolized a collective hope for greater security and stability in the region. Security leaders pledged to work closely with the state government to increase surveillance and preempt future attacks, with plans to deploy more resources to vulnerable communities.
