Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan and his younger brother, Aremu Afolayan, have ended their long-standing feud during the wake-keep ceremony for their late mother in Oyo State on Friday, November 22, 2024. The emotional reunion marked the end of years of publicized disagreements between the two sons of legendary filmmaker Ade Love.

The brothers’ rift, which began years ago, garnered public attention in 2018 when Aremu criticized their late father, claiming he lived in poverty despite his fame. Kunle responded by calling Aremu “stupid” in a viral interview, further deepening their divide.

At the wake-keep, Kunle addressed the audience, emphasizing his familial role in Aremu’s life. “I am not Aremu’s brother but his father. I trained him and I’m 10 years older than him. But love conquers all,” he said.

Aremu, in turn, apologized to Kunle, expressing gratitude for the reconciliation initiated by their late mother’s prayers. “My greatest joy today is that my mother made us talk. She never stopped praying because I was the black sheep in the family. I’m sorry for putting brother Kunle through the Instagram backlash. It’s because I love you,” Aremu said.

The heartfelt reunion has been praised by fans and industry colleagues, who celebrated the brothers’ decision to bury the hatchet and honor their late mother’s legacy.
