Nigerian pastor and founder of Liberty Gospel Church, Helen Ukpabio, has filed a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit against singer Bloody Civilian over comments made on social media. The controversy stems from a post by Bloody Civilian accusing Ukpabio of encouraging child abuse, which the pastor’s legal team has described as “reckless, satanic, and libellous.”
The singer made the allegation on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, referencing a YouTube documentary that criticized Ukpabio’s methods and ideology. The comment was in response to a post celebrating the pastor’s 60th birthday.
Ukpabio’s daughter, Imabong, demanded that the singer delete the post within five hours or face legal consequences. When Bloody Civilian refused, Ukpabio’s legal representatives issued a letter demanding ₦200 billion in damages for distress, trauma, pain, and anguish, along with a public apology.
Reacting to the lawsuit, Bloody Civilian humorously addressed the situation on her X handle, stating, “Guys, they just sued me for 200 billion naira. This December I will be adding the following to my services: standup comedy, weddings and settling disputes.”
The case has sparked widespread debate on social media, with supporters of both parties weighing in. Critics of the singer argue that public figures should be cautious with their statements, while others see the lawsuit as an attempt to silence criticism.
