President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have concluded their participation in the 2024 G-20 summit and departed Rio de Janeiro on Saturday morning aboard the Nigerian presidential jet. The summit marked Nigeria’s debut appearance as a guest country among the world’s 20 largest economies.
During the event, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the newly launched Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, a G-20 initiative aimed at tackling food insecurity and economic disparities worldwide. Highlighting Nigeria’s strategic priorities, he engaged in bilateral meetings and sealed agreements aimed at bolstering the nation’s agricultural sector.
One of the major outcomes of the summit was the signing of a letter of intent with three Brazilian companies to enhance Nigeria’s livestock development. The initiative is expected to drive innovation, boost productivity, and create sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.
Tinubu’s participation underscored Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate on global issues such as poverty reduction, food security, and economic development. Analysts view the summit as a significant step in positioning Nigeria on the global economic stage, emphasizing strategic partnerships and economic diversification.
The presidential jet departed from Galeão Air Force Base in Rio de Janeiro at 10:20 am local time, concluding the historic visit.
