Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has launched a comprehensive renovation of the iconic Concorde Hotel in Owerri, a move aimed at revitalizing the once-luxurious establishment to boost tourism, create jobs, and stimulate the local economy. The 245-room hotel, previously regarded as a symbol of pride for Imo State and the South-East region, had suffered years of neglect, leaving it in a state of disrepair.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized the importance of restoring the Concorde Hotel to its former glory, with plans to modernize its facilities and meet contemporary hospitality standards. “This renovation is more than just a facelift; it’s a commitment to reviving Imo’s tourism potential and providing jobs for our residents. A fully functional Concorde Hotel will attract tourists, business travelers, and investors to the state,” he stated.

The restoration project has already generated employment in construction and will pave the way for more job opportunities in the hospitality sector upon the hotel’s reopening. The economic ripple effect is expected to support local businesses, further integrating the hotel as a cornerstone of the state’s tourism and economic strategy.

Community members have voiced their support for the governor’s efforts. Jonathan Amadi, an Imo indigene, remarked, “The poor state of Concorde Hotel was embarrassing. We’re relieved and proud that the governor is restoring it.” Another resident, Ebere Uzoh, added, “Governor Uzodimma’s decision to renovate rather than sell the hotel shows his dedication to our state. We are happy, and we thank God for his leadership.”

The ambitious project is part of Governor Uzodimma’s broader initiative to reclaim and rehabilitate abandoned state assets, positioning Imo State as a potential major tourist destination in Nigeria. Upon completion, Concorde Hotel is expected to enhance the state’s appeal to tourists, fueling growth in both tourism and the local economy.
