Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria, stating that it falls short of the democratic ideals seen in the United States.

Speaking on The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido reflected on the American political system, praising its emphasis on democratic values. “What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from, it’s not so,” he said.

Davido recalled congratulating Donald Trump after his electoral victory, despite voting for Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party, as a testament to his belief in democracy. “If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him. I wanted Kamala Harris to win because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool,” he added.
