Eastern Waste Management Company (EWAMAC) has launched the Door2Door Waste Disposal service in Owerri, promising to overhaul waste management and improve residents’ quality of life. Set to begin December 4th, this innovative system was unveiled during a press briefing by EWAMAC’s Managing Director, Uche Njoku, who emphasized the initiative’s focus on convenience, public health, and environmental sustainability.
The Door2Door system eliminates the need for residents to trek to public dumpsites, replacing it with home-based waste collection. Njoku assured that the service would address inefficiencies and health hazards tied to traditional waste disposal practices.
Key Benefits of the Door2Door Service
- Public Health Improvements: By phasing out dumpsites, known for spreading disease and unpleasant odors, the initiative will reduce health risks.
- Cleaner Environment: Scheduled waste pickups will keep streets and neighborhoods tidy, enhancing urban aesthetics.
- Convenience: Residents, especially vulnerable groups like the elderly, will no longer face the burden of traveling to dumpsites.
- Economic Growth: The system will create job opportunities for waste management personnel in Owerri.
- Sustainability: Reducing individual trips to dumpsites will lower carbon emissions, contributing to global environmental goals.
Njoku expressed confidence in the project’s success, citing ongoing preparations to ensure a smooth rollout. “We are committed to making Owerri a model city for sustainable waste management,” he stated.
Residents have praised EWAMAC’s efforts, expressing hope for a cleaner, healthier city. With the December 4th launch date approaching, anticipation builds as the Door2Door service promises to transform waste management practices across Owerri.
