A fire outbreak at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi, Lagos, was swiftly contained by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), preventing extensive damage to the facility.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed on Thursday that the agency received distress calls at 10:20 p.m. and immediately activated its Emergency Response Plan. Within two minutes, the Eagle Response Team from the Cappa Base in Oshodi arrived at the scene and discovered a generator house engulfed in flames.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by overheating of the generator engine. Despite the generator house being 80% destroyed, the agency’s swift intervention stopped the inferno from spreading to nearby buildings.
“No lives were lost, and no injuries were reported,” Oke-Osanyintolu said, praising the team’s timely response and efficiency. The damping down operation and search and rescue efforts have since been concluded.
The incident highlights the importance of stringent safety measures in facilities housing high-risk equipment to prevent future occurrences.
