A fire outbreak on Thursday gutted a section of the plank market on Pipeline Street in Ikotun, Lagos State, destroying four shops.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded swiftly, with its Dolphin Response Team from Igando containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident, stating that no lives were lost and no injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire were inconclusive at the time of reporting.
This incident follows an earlier fire outbreak at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi, Lagos, on the same day. LASEMA revealed that the Oshodi fire was caused by an overheated generator and was quickly extinguished, with no casualties or injuries reported.
The quick intervention of emergency responders in both incidents has been widely praised, underscoring the importance of efficient disaster management systems in mitigating damage and saving lives.
